That all changes this week, as Bunkhouse opens its first full-service hotel restaurant, Summer House on Music Lane, at the new Hotel Magdalena, located at 1101 Music Lane, just steps away from bustling South Congress Avenue. Summer House features both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a full bar with a focus on sparkling wines. For now, the restaurant is not serving food to-go, but it will offer takeout at some point. Inspired by “the casual sophistication that defines a lake house weekend” per a press release, Summer House is open for breakfast, lunch, weekend brunch, and dinner. The dinner menu focuses on live-fire cooking, with items like a wood-grilled whole fish, caramelized scallops, and steaks, while brunch has more eggy dishes (breakfast sandwich, steak and eggs), as well as ricotta pancakes and pozole. Executive Chef Jeffrey Hundelt was previously at Launderette and casual spot Fresa’s Chicken al Carbon.

The Hotlel Magdalena, the largest to date from Bunkhouse, which is majority-owned by Standard Hotels, was designed in collaboration with Austin architecture firm Lake | Flato. Bunkhouse Group has helped define the look and feel of Austin as much as any hospitality company in the city over the last decade-plus with properties like the Hotel San Jose and Hotel Saint Cecilia. The restaurant is sure to be just one of the draws at the 89-room hotel that celebrated a soft opening earlier this fall. It’s the newest, and biggest, hotel from Bunkhouse, which also operates Hotel Saint Cecilia and Hotel San José in Austin, as well as El Cosmico in Marfa, Texas.

This gorgeous outdoor amphitheatre has been hosting concerts since the LA Philharmonic first played here in 1922. It boasts a stellar summer lineup (from Sondheim songs to Disney movies) and a pretty generous BYOB policy that lets you bring wine and beer to nearly every performance.
